Thread: Shortening a 110 tub to fit a 130

Good evening Aussie pals and greetings from a dull and cold Southampton UK,

I really need some help with some measurements.

So I have bought myself a 2012 silver Defender 130. It's a bit different to the VW T5 I'm currently running, to say the least, but I will be selling that soon hopefully.

I bought it as an ex utility vehicle that used to belong the the environment agency here in the UK. It's come with a large enclosed box on the back and an orange flashing beacon on the roof, which is useful, but will be taken off asap, I can assure you of that!!

The plan is to remove the box and replace it with a hicap tub in the near future. The only problem is, is that 130 tubs are like unicorns over here, and difficult to get hold of unless you don't mind paying the earth - about 10,000 Aus$! There are second hand ones around, but as I say, they are not easy to find.

I have managed to get hold of a 110 tub, which is longer than the 130, but i should be able to cut out the excess from the front and then weld it back together. The main issue is to try and chop out the right amount.

And this may be where I might need a leg up in order to try and get things as accurate as possible.

Would anyone be able to help me with the following dimensions for a 130 tub?

1) The distance from the front edge of the front hole located at one of the front corners, to the front edge of the hole in the corresponding corner at the rear. These are the holes where you would normally insert the poles to secure a canopy to.
2) The external distance from the front top (or bottom) corner to the rear top (or bottom) corner (the yellow arrows in the photo)
3) The distance inside the tub from the front, of either wheel arch, to the front of the tub on the inside (the white arrows in the photo)

Or if anyone has already done this, can you give me any tips or how to's

I have included 3 photos to try and show what I'm talking about.

Any help will be repaid with beers when I come over there in 2023 to visit my Ambo brother in Saphire, Queensland.

1661mm (my quick measurement with end of tape in hole so probably 1660mm)

1755mm

Hey Towe0609, thanks for doing that and getting wet for me, I’m very grateful and I hope you didn’t get to damp.
I appreciate what you say about the measurements not being too accurate, so if you’re able to get something you’re happier with when it’s drier that would be awesome. At least it gives me something to go on for now.
