Chirping noise in D2 TD5

The exhaust problem is common---

not sure about the chirps!!!:D



try a search on different sites, lots of ideas, some good fixes.

Have any of you guys got the chip upgrade as well? Maybe that is contributing? Or is this problem common on TD5s?

Micka, cold is when mine first started,, perhaps it is because needs a very tight high pressure to achieve a chirp, once it heats up a little it might shift and become a less pressure more flow leak. (the high pitch chirp might become a dull fart and get lost amongst the chorus of TD5 noises,,,until its a huge farting jet and cant be missed TIC).

Or it could be the opposite, maybe at first the leak is just a loose nut and as it heats up, it shifts and makes a good seal agaiin. Perhaps this happens while we try and figure out our chirp, and then the stud gives up with the constant push/pull and gives way.... and then becomes the huge farting jet that you cant miss,,,,,( I just like saying huge farting jet):eek:

The other thing is that once I had mine fixed, I noticed how deep a diesel thump she had a idle with the blown gasket/warped manifold. Noticeably quiter after the fix.:)

But of course it could always be one of the pulleys up front,,,,,,,,,,,,,DOH!

And yes mine is chipped and is usually working its bum orf towing.

Yep! Manifold Gasket Leak (most likely broken stud or loose nut on one of them)

It slowly gets worse.....

Hint! Replace ALL studs if repairing (or they'll break) and careful, not uncommon to have one snap in the head requiring an easyout to remove it.

Mine made this chirping noise and it was a broken manifold stud, replaced it and the gasket had the manifold machined as it was warped, a cheap hint a GSXR750 Suzuki manifold stud is the same, i had a spare from my old race bike:D $70 all fixed now, $20 for the gasket and $50 for the machining.

What mileage - kilometerage - does this happen at?

Mines started to develop a noise, best I could describe it as being like a noisy speedo cable in the old days. Not loud, just chatters away to itself under load.

I'm at 78,000 kms atm.

Top marks to Scouse and Stevo for spot on diagnosis.

A pull-apart revealed two broken studs on the no.1 cylinder-exhaust manifold join and inspection of the remaining studs revealed a dodgy one on no. 5 on the way out.

The airconwas also inspected for weird noises and found to be okay.

Now for the leaking transmission seal........:(

The chattering noise in mine transpires to be a noisy 5th gear. Again.
