Thread: Are Bridgestone ATs any good?

As I indicated in a previous thread I need new tyres for my Freelander and the consensus was BFGs (Coopers don't fit) - I have HTs at the moment and want to put ATs on.

Now Michelins are about $270 ea,
BFGs, Pirellis are about $220
But Bridgstones and Toyos are about $180

As I said Cooper does not make an AT small enough and I also looked into MT/Rs as well, but not made small enough.

Still leaning towards the BFGs but at nearly $40 cheaper the bridgstones or toyos might be the go but these brands are rarely mentioned on the forum so I assume are not generally popular.

Also a factor is that the Freelander is primarily front wheel drive with only a little torque going to the rear so like all fwd cars the fronts wear quickly and the rears hardly at all (a particular tyre rotation program is important).

So are bridgestones duds in AT format and am I better paying an extra $40 a tyre and going for the BFGs.

I use Toyo Opats on my Rangie as road tyres and moderate 4wd work when I am too lazy to change the wheels over. Dont overlook them as I have found them to be excellent. They are wearing very well with around 90.000 kms looking possible at this time. They have very good traction on the road, balance well with very little weight needed, hold air very well and are made in Japan. I disagree with useing BFG all terrains and have never liked those tyres. They dont have good traction on the road, ( when you push the car hard ) are noisy and the tread holds stones which really annoys me once you get back onto the bitumen.
What ever you buy I am sure you will be happy with. You will have to be unless you can afford to change them over if you are not!
