Thread: Template for Safari Snorkel D1

I fitted a Safari Snorkel to my D1 300tdi last weekend. Safari refered me to ARB for the template and they wanted to sell me a piece of paper/card.

I borrowed one from an installer I know and photocopied it TWICE onto 2 pieces of A3 paper and taped them together..... not very fancy, but it worked for me and I'd be happy to pass a set on.

Apart from the template and other basic tools (spanners, sockets, screwdrivers, battery drill & electric, files, rivet gun, etc.) I needed:

step drill
hole saw (killed the toy one I had and bought a 104mm + Arbour =$110....then went through inner guard like butter)
new hose clamps
silicon
loctite
anti rust paint (inner guard)

the hole in the outer guard is an elongated "D" shape and my "Dremel" was useful there

(Mine's a 300tdi...... don't know if that's important)
just saw your signature... you too ... 95 or 98 same

Hi scchmez thanks mate you are a legend. Dont suppose you want to lend me the hole saw aswell. I will post it back with a small rental fee so you can buy yourself a few beers. Matt

I had a similar problem Matt with the Pig, I bought a second hand Safari for $150 and use my daughters playdough to line up the bolt holes with where I needed to drill..worked a treat

this is what I've got, I'll send you the top one because it's already cut out for you and it's what worked for me.



not pretty I know, but it'll do the job.

I can put it into an envelope and get the receptionist from work to post it tomorrow.
If you know any plumbers up there, they'll have a hole saw that size too (100mm = Std pipe size) It's harder for me to get away from work and go to the P.O. to post a package (can't get the receptionist to do that for me ). If you have no luck I'll send it up.

Is anyone from Vic coming to the "legendary" on 5th-6th

Thanks mate, i didnt think of a plumber stacey's uncle is a plumber i will ask him.

No, noone from Vic is coming up but you or anyone else is welcome to make the trip up if you can get the friday and the monday off work, from melbourne should take around 9hrs, you would be welcome to stay as long as you want. Matt
