The 4.7's from series 3's are renowned for being weak. I wouldn't want to do any serious 4wding with those 4.7's. Nothing worse than doing a diff on the trail...
The LT95 in my V8 County is from a Range Rover and has 1.113 transfer gears. Its a bit tall for the 3.5 - V8 110's ran 1.34 gears as standard.
Now if I fit .996 transfer gears and use 4.7 diff centers from a Series 3, the gearing is almost exactly the same as standard but with the benefit of a 63:1 first low range ratio. (highway rpm @ 100 km/h actually drop by 40 rpm)
Does anyone have some high ratio transfer gears for a LT95 or know where I can get some at the right price? Series 3 diff centers are cheap and easy to get however changing a Salisbury center is a bit daunting......

And yet this is precisely the gearing used in the Army's 6x6 Perentie, which runs a LT95A gearbox/tcase. I wonder what R&P's they use in the diff?
I used Kam 4 .71 ring and pinions in my 90. These are alot stronger than the seris ones but the same ratio.Originally Posted by 303gunner

Left the Kam one as you can see alot larger
Fitted into the diff. They do them for salisbury diffs too

remember that the rear diffs are Salisbury's in a Perentie which are miles stronger in 4.7:1 than a Rover CWP in 3.54:1....Originally Posted by 303gunner
IIRC the front Rover CWP is a 'special' pt #. Anyone confirm/deny ?
The front diff is the same as the one above , and the slaisbury diff in a seris is alot stronger than the standard diffs. so seris slaisbury diff is fine for off roading but the front one is not

The Army 4.7s were upgraded to overcome these issues, even have a different part no. Its been discussed on Pirates before. From memory the army 4.7s are someting like $1500 each..Originally Posted by 303gunner

I wouldnt expect a rear 4.7 Salisbury to give too many dramas, do 4.7's in the front break all that often when not locked?Originally Posted by TuffRR

yes the r+p is much stronger than a series gear set and yes it does cost about 1500, these are through LRA but are stock from the mid 80's
i thought kam was looking at suppling santana. either way i'm not impressed by there lockers and otherr things done in the past.
there gears may be ok but you have a choice to buy from ashcroft, kam and GBR in the USA
cheers, Serg
