There was a D1 bullbar that was being sold cheap by an trader at the Expo and was already sold BUT the sale fell through, so now I have an ARB winch compatible bullbar for my Disco.
(it's a little odd because I could have sworn it was TJM bar at the show but never mind it looks good anyway.)
My problem is fitting the winch plate - this is a very snug fit between the chassis (with bar mounting plates fitted) and is supposed to share the same three bolts, on each side, that hold the bar on. But the winch plate won't go near the holes because of one of two metal pipes going to a low radiator that runs the width of the grill but is only about 50mm tall. I don't know what this is but the pipes run under a chassis cross-bar, where they are clamped, there is a fitting for a sensor and then they convert into high pressure rubber hoses. Air conditioning?
Whatever they are one of them sits pretty close to the chassis cross member while the other stands off it by about 25mm. I've tried gentle persuasion after loosening the clamp but the pipes are pretty tough and spring back into place when I let go. Any hints on reforming the bugger in-situ?

Is your's an auto? - that sounds like the auto trans oil cooler. To make the bar fit it will be necessary to pull the cooler lines apart and find somewhere to remount the oil cooler. Messy but no big problem. Probably have to replace some of the metal lines with flexible oil lines

Yep it's an auto (see my sig) I can't find any detail in my Haynes manual on the trans oil cooler but that sounds right. I don't need to relocate the pipes the winch plate will clear them if they both sit close to the chassis cross member but only one does, the other one is fitted about 25mm away from it. I guess I'm just asking if there is a way to bend the pipe (a little) without damaging it or needing to take it off.

When I bought my original bull bar (second hand) it came complete with two hoses fitted underneath, that joined up and ran back to the windscreen washer ,to clean the front headlights.
As I have fitted series 2 auto trans cooler and had a problem with the rigid
high pressure pipe I removed this and had a fitting welded to take a flexible
hose back to the g/box this solved my problem of not being able bend the previous fitting.

I remember that bar. If it suited an old Rangie I would have bought it myself.

I have a D1 auto with an ARB Winch bull bar. The pipe in question on mine looks like it has been relocated. It comes down from the "low radiator" and takes a right angle bend to head directly toward the passenger side of the car and goes over the top of the main chassis rail then another right angle bend to head toward the back, if I can figure out how to send a pic I'll send one to show you mine.

If there isnt a winch dont worry about the plate. I fitted one to a V8 earlier in the year and we just put the bolts through the chassis, the winch plate wasnt even with it. Just keep it in the shed until you buy a winch and worry about it then. Matt
