    BF Goodrich or Goodyear

Presently, considering new tyres for the Defender 130. I apprecaite there has been much discussion lately about tyres, but have narrowed my choice to either BF Goodrich AT or the new Goodyear Silent Armor.

Can anyone provide advise as to reliability, tread life etc.

    Cheers

IMO.... BFG. Only because the Goodyear are new.

That said, I'm a big fan of the Goodyear MTRs... Have you thought of a set of those???

Time has passed BFG by. There are better tyres out there now. Goodyears used to be shockers, but have really lifted their game. I was very happy with MTRs previuosly, & just bought the Silent Armours for a desert trip. Very happy, no problems, chipping was lress than any of the Coopers on the same trip.

BFG's as i have just done 36,000 k's around Aus in 6 months on a set of old ones and they gave me no trouble not even a punture. And we went down all the grat aus tracks, Tamini, Gibb River, Great central track, Savannah way, Telgraphy track.

But the Goodyears are not too bad. My brother races with the MTR's on his trucks. But they have to as it is the Goodyear British off road championships

i fitted bfg at's before my simpson for no other reason than two mates have them on there cars and they have performed well

although i didn't get a puncture the two fitted to the rear were badly chipped and have some cracks in the blocks from all the gibber rock, the fronts had minor chipping and cracks as well.

a mate of mine did a trip a month after me across the simpson than onto sout aust and he destroyed two coopers and two others very badly chipped. his got covered by warrenty,

another mate is about to fit some pirelle scorpion at's, will be interesting to see how they go

    will post some pics

    here are the pics

ahh mine like are like this. But it happens to all off road tyres if you go off road. comes with the job

I am in the flooring trade and to people who say that their carpet wears out over time. we tell them not to walk on it then and it won't wear out , same with off road tyres if you use them off road then you will damage them

I agree take the tried and proven option BFG. But why not get a set of Muddies they wear nearly as good as the AT's with better grip off road and a great on road I have found.

Dont just consider BFG or GY i have a set of Mickey Thompson Baja MTX's on my disco and love them. Lots of sharp rocks around here and they havent chipped at all, they are light truck construction so tough and they were the same price as the GoodYear A/T's (not sure how much the new silent armours are) and they were $60 cheaper than the equivalent BFG A/T's. It's dark here now but I'll have to get a photo of the chipping in my MTRs... They were given a good thrashing by Ali's (Reeds90) brother when we put them on the racer & then gave it some stick in an area with lots of flint!!!
