    Arrow 300tdi Water pump

    been a good 24hrs,

daughters neon blew a water pump last night, $600 out the door at mach speed....

and i have blown one on the disco tonight :P

no water leakage, 1 win :P

whats the quickest way to get the thing in and out on a tdi ?

i suppose i have to take the fan out,

and it uses a special spanner if my memory serves me right...?

is the spanner a common tool ?

have to ring MR in the morning and get one on a courier so i can do it monday night...

not good timing though, moving the youngest daugther from annerley to strathpine this weekend, so just had to hire a merc van from thrifty to do it now...

    bugger bugger bugger!

    I've got one of these:
    http://www.collinsid.com.au/Automoti...ner+32mm.phtml

It's an ABW Ford Viscous fan spanner - 32mm. I can't help you with the job of replacing the pump, but I know this spanner fits and the thread to remove the fan is a reverse thread.

You don't need to take the fan off to get the main belt off...but it is a fiddle to get the main belt off past the fan..just a fiddle though (I have done this a few times for various reasons.... alternator, PS pump and water pump). Doing it solo I use a double ended ring spanner (17mm I think and a big screw driver through the free end to lever the tensioner to get the belt off)..getting the belt back on is a reverse procedure with the final positioning occuring under the car to finally position the belt on the crank pulley

You should also get a P gasket for the block connection and check the condition of the bolts as they can corrode...no leak at the block is a good sign though.

    Good luck.

    The tensioner pully?

The bearing is cheap but I think that you will need to drill some holes in the spring steel circlip to remove it.

hmmm, can you feel my weekend composting, i can.....

not the water pump..... well lets say it isnt the biggest problem.

it is good compared to whats beside it.....

power steering pump is way worse, about 5mm movement in the pulley

    oh what a feeling.........

I spent a weekend with CJ removing replacing the PS pump and the Waterpump...and the tensioner bearing and fitting a beautiful new main belt and the accessory belt while we were at it...what was else was planned.

Having said that...I can now hear the engine..not chorus of canaries

A pain but well worth it.
