If my memory hasn't totally deserted me, the N73 is a live axle 80-100 Series TLC front damper, 10.5" stroke.
Koni version I have made go metal to metal. Foot (compression) valve and rebound adjuster nut totally stuffed. Luckily could invert the pressure tube otherwise I'd be up for a new pair of dampers.

Just a simple 2"LIFT?

I recently did the Maytown to Laura Old Coach Road (North QLD) with a Nissan patrol wagon (3.0L GU) he managed to destroy his alloy factory sidesteps as well as breaking rear plastic bumper mounts. I did no lasting damage but my factory steel sidesteps did cop a few whacks, I thought a small lift would help to avoid this however it appears to be not so simple.

if you want to experiment cheaply....
just get a pair of standard landcruiser shocks (as mentioned above) second hand from the wreckers.....
they are 2 inches longer than the defender ones i hear.....if the travel is ok.....
you can then splurge on new shocks and list the tojo items on fleabay.....

There are shocks and there are shocks
The 80 series landcrusher shock is a common enough conversion for the front. But OME, KOni, Bilstein are all different lengths. Don't assume that coz one works, the others will too.
All that will happen is that you'll get a fraction more droop before the raduis arm bushes bind. So you've got to free them up to get full advantage of the longer shocks.
