    Engine harness replacement - update

    Well guys

Replaced the engine harness a couple of weeks ago and now the truck is running strong as ever - Bruce Davis checked the ECU for codes this morning and it is running clean(many thks Bruce).

    Now the interesting bit.

I imported a harness from the UK and they sent me the wrong one. I have an early TD5 with the non downloadable ECU and older harness and they sent me a harness to fit the newer TD5 Defender - sh*^t

There are some harness differences that I had to work with:
    1. The air temp sensor on the airbox is different and so had to splice the old harness connector onto new harness and delete a wire from the new harness.
    2. The new harness has 2 additional EGR plugs that are not used on the older TD5 engine(do not connect)
    3. The diff lock plug to indicator switch on transfer case is different on the new harness and I had to cut and splice two spade type connectors for this connection.
    4. There is an additional air conditioning plug on new harness that connects at the air-con compressor on new model (do not connect)

Big difference between harness's is the price:

Harness to suit older revision TD5 - approx $1400
Harness to suit new revision TD5 - approx $400

Aside from these problems the harness's are identical. Regards Daz

    New Engine Harness TD5

    Hi Daz

Who did you end up getting your wiring harness from in the UK? I'm interested in pricing a 2002 TD5 Defender harness as mine has some damage and gremlins in it.

Hi, the guy you are asking was last seen 11 years ago on this forum

tell me the last 8 characters from the VIN and if your Defender has air-con and EGR then i'll tell you more cos there are more versions for 2002 modells.
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
