Even in a Disco1 without ABS you will accelerate the wear in the LT230 transfer case centre diff thrust washers (shims?) and you will end up with driveline slop. The centre diff is designed to differentiate, but it doesn't like to be doing it all of the time and the wear rate goes through the roof. This is one of the big reasons why many also recommend locking the centre diff as soon as you hit dirt.
    Cheers

    I had a rrs 2007 2.7.
When I purchased it I could get top gear unless I shifted it manually into top(auto).
I found left front tyre different size to the others. Fitted right tyre and auto changed beautifully, so odd tyre saw winding up the driveline. Oh it also ate the front diff , guessing it was on there for some time.
