Oh me thinks a shorter strop will get the cable closer to centre of vehicle.

These are probably the best solution, A short light strop and easy to stow and connect if needed. Could use a tree protector strap or sling or something like that if short enough.
When I get it out of the shed I can try out my remote and have a fiddle with strops.

I cant just pull straight ahead from that corner block like your blue line for that reason. Also my winching tree might be off to the left a bit so the winch cable wont be on that front block at all but pulling from the left rear block which may be interesting.

If you do have to winch to a tree on the left what's to stop you re-routing the rope/cable through the opposite side of the front left corner block?

Rather than permanently mount the blocks to the corners it might be easier and more adaptable to have then removable. That way you could setup a spot to mount them on each corner and then you have many more options.

And if you use an equaliser strap (or bridle as they are sometimes referred to as) then it would effectively pull from both the left and right front corners and centre the pull towards the anchor point. Even more so the longer the straight line between the anchor point and the equaliser/bridle strap.

Look up some youtube clips on using a front mounted winch to winch vehicle backwards and you'll get some ideas. You can get away with 3 snatch blocks if you have three suitable anchor points. You just need more rope/cable.

My left hand front block is on a swing out arrangement to clear the front wheel and only works with compression on the brace. So I cant put the rope on the other side of the block. I dont really want to do a lot more work to it so a simple solution was needed. As I said its never been used yet as this old truck has never been stuck

I hunted around and found a short tree protector from ARB but they say its very old and cant give me a rating. Its pale blue.
I found a 1 metre long webbing sling I just bought so will use it to connect the snatch block to the front of the RH chassis. Looks like it might work.
