    DII broken front axle R.H.

I broke the front axle right hand side it went inside the cv joint broke just behind the spline,it broke yesterday somewhere near lithgow (ace's BBQ)
drove home sunday morning and pulled it out very easy took 45 mins.
You need a 32mm socket to undo cv nut then remove brake caliper, next unplug the abs sensor and unclip wire from holders, there are 4 bolts at the back of the backing plate remove these and the hub will pull out along with the cv joint.
as I did not have to far to go risked driving back after removing the front drive shaft no problams but would recommend removing it for any long drives.will get the complete half shaft as not sure what damage was done to the cv part number is TDB500250 $541.00 will ring other places tomorrow.I will take the broken bits to work and check if the cv is salvagable
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

Glad to hear you got home and got it out ok. I thought it would be cheaper than that. Just ring every supplier you can in vic, nsw, qld and then get the cheapest one.

When i was ringing around getting quotes for a new steering box before i decided to replace it quotes ranged from $450 reco to $1700 new. There were new ones as cheap as $650 so ring everywhere. Good luck with it mate.

Ask around about the stronger ones, if they make them. Matt

Good to here you got home OK Steve.
Pretty steep on the price - hopefully you can find a stronger one cheaper than the stealers price

Sorry to hear about your damage bill. I feel your pain I've only just got my D2 back to normal working order. How did you do it?

Sadly the Disco2 front end is a different design to most of the other landys. The County etc CV's wont fit.

Maxi do a replacement which are axles and CV's. The axles are pretty standard Maxi affairs, though the CV's are where the tech has gone to. They are a larger Rangie style CV having the removable outer stub, but these ones also have a Hituff alloy ring thats been pressed around the CV bell. Mal reckons that the axle should break before the CV, though full lock the CV may still break. These were designed and tested for the Bowlers or whatever it was that ran the Dakkar rally, all coming through unscathed. Mind you, we stress them a little differently to rallying. Anyway, slide out, slide in they're about $2800 for the front end.
    Cheers

Also Maxi axles are around $680 for the pair, i'd do this if i were you, thats if you don't go with the Maxi CV's and axles.

    Glad you made it back.
Even with the front damage you did very well and didn't need as much of a pull as I did.

All back together replaced the seal aswell took 1 hour all up including putting the drive shaft back on will take the other parts to work and see what can be saved would'nt mind the maxi drive stuff but will be needing tryes soon but the standard stuff has survived 6 years so not to bad have allways expected the rear ones to go first

Glad you got home ok Steve, thought it tws the axle didn't sound like a CV

mate do the ring around, but if i wz you I'd go the maxi CV an axles if you just get the maxi axles you stand a chance of braking the CV as maxis are so strong, the way I look at it is the OE stuff is good but when you break something go stronger if its available.
