    Alpine window rust fix?

    Hi all,

I did a search and found plenty of info about people having rust under the alpine windows and some mentioned how easy it was to fix. However none went into detail about how to fix it.

    Has anyone done this themselves?

How do you get the alpine window out?

Was the steel under the window rubber also rusted out? i.e. would you have trouble resealing the window if you just fibreglassed it without welding in new steel?

    Thanks

hi all i realise this is an old thread, but ive been searching and am having the same trouble as ute mad in finding info on sorting out the rust in the alpine windows, mines not bad but want to sort it out before it gets bad - any body done it?
i was also told that you can put them back in with d2 window seals which are better in that they dont hold the water like the d1 ones.
    any info greatly appreciated.

Arent the D2 alpine windows bonded as opposed to using a lip type seal ?

I have not done it but the crash repairer did when I had a small bit of work done.

If you look at the seal, you will see a "filler strip" of rubber in the centre. Remove this & the seal supposedly collapses a bit & out it comes.

I have seen the old piece of string method used on windows. ie wrapped around & pulled away as you go around.

With the window & seal out it's just a matter of treating the rust & priming it, butyl sealant around the hole so it gets into the U channel, in with the seal, more sealant around where the glass fits & bung it all back together again.

Like I said I haven't done it, so it may a tad more difficult than I describe, but you get me drift.

Don't know about FG filler. Could work I suppose. It would depends what you found when it was in bits.

Edited........... You may find the Water Ingress Bulletins a help.

Also, depending on the severity of the repair work/access etc, you may need to remove the plastic "inner wall" but window & seal out I think you should be ok.

You could always ask advice from someone like Windscreens O'Brien etc.

    Hope this helps.
