I just bought 2 5Ah Ryobi knockoffs from Ebay last week.

Now a genuine Ryobi 2Ah battery weighs 420grams

    A genuine Ryobi 4Ah Battery weighs 725grams

A 5 Ah knock off that I bought 2 years ago weighs 525 grams

The 5Ah batteries I bought last week weigh 440 grams.

This means that that the 5Ah batteries I bought last week are actually 2Ah as a good measure of the Ah of a lithium battery is its weight. Tomorrow I am going to pull apart one of the batteries I bought to see what the batteries in it actually are.

Now I only paid $30 for the battery and I knew what to expect so not worried - try buying a 2Ah battery from Bunnings for $30 even if the one I have says 5Ah.

Buying none branded stuff "off ebay is like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re gonna get" no matter what the packaging says.

The other thing with Ryobi is that Bunnings is the only place that sell them and Bunnings do not service or sell most parts so can be an issue.
You can order Ryobi parts thru Bunnings, one of our clients at work is the importer/distributor for Ryobi as well as others -

I have a plethora of Genuine and Non-Genuine Ryobi batteries in both 18v and 40v

Never had a problem with either.

I mentioned above that my old Ryobi 5Ah knock off had failed - when pulling apart the joints on two cells had corroded - looks like water but only in one spot. Today I removed the corrosion and soldered on new joints - now charging up like a trooper .

So if you have a failed battery, pull them apart and check what is going on inside - you maybe able to repair them .
