On a trip like that you could have paid for all the repairs to the 100 with the fuel savings in the Disco
I failed to mention he had roof racks and I didnt so that would exaggerate the differnce, wind resistance and all.

My 2001 trip to the Cape only repair & a biggy when I got home was an injector pump & injectors about $5000 but Land Rover paid half, the parts had done 60,000km (over 12 months old) after being replaced once before. No others needed replacing, did oil replacement but was normal service anyway. 10.8 litres per 100 with roof rack & two swags on the roof.

Oh yeh I forgot my passenger 120kg + tried to pull himself up on the roof rack & grabbed the PVC tube with tent poles in & bent/broke the brackets & repaired with cable ties that lasted 3 years until snapped off & lost the tube in the High Country in vicinity of Davies Plain area with 6 alloy poles.

Ah ok. We were up there between Cairns and the tip between 24th June and 17th July.

That crossing was one of the river crossings on the Hahn River Roadhouse property. Some deep holes in that one, though at least it was a hard rock base.

Absolutely, I think the big spots are near the steering box, and near the square hole under the chassis rail, and also the PS body mount behind the front wheel.
