    Patrol ABS in D2a??

    Hi all

I'm currently doing some planning for a weekend warrior D2, it will be a long term project so I've got time to ask questions and source all the bits...

As I am planning on an M57 power plant, I'm also looking at running Patrol diffs front and rear. As my D2 has ABS and I still want it legal anyone know about getting the ABS to work? is it as simple (assuming the diffs already have ABS) plugging them in (this I highly doubt) could I fit the LR ABS sensors (looking at Google images they look very similar) or would it involve the complete transplant of the tone rings and sensors to the diffs. I don't have any bits to compare side by side but just it is something that has been on my mind.

Also I have read that due to the Patrol read diff being central that may cause drivetrain issues, again, just bench racing, is this a problem? or would it be possible to re-hash a front diff (flipped front center or rear center to get the drive correct) with the tracking locked in place (I think read steer is a bit beyond my skill set..) again, just thinking out loud so I'm probably way off course, but hopefully legends here with experience can help me with my plans

    cheers

80 series diffs are a better fit since the offset is the same on the rear diff, i doubt that the ABS will function as it will depend on the diameter of the ring, number of teeth and resistance of the sensors.

this. If the reluctor ring has the same amount of teeth it would work, you may need to fix up a bracket for the LR abs sensor or you could measure the patrol one (and adapt the plug). You might be able to fix the reluctor ring, there is a site that sells them so a custom made one should not be a problem. As long as it has the same amount of teeth, diameter should not be a problem unless they are very far out. The alternative is figuring out what the patrol would send and what the D2 would expect and run it through a small arduino or something to recode it, pretty easy to do BUT with odd numbers it will be a headache.

    Good luck with the project!

    Cheers,

I thought that I read the ABS was compatible with either the Patrol or Landcruiser ABS. I'm sure there was somebody who did this, I'm thinking it was on Pirate4x4 from years ago.

Have you considered running Ashcroft axles and cv in the d2 Diffs or is the a better benefit running patrol Diffs.I’ve had both vehicles and broken cvs in both.

Its a cheaper way of changing ratios and stronger axles.

This, plus wider range/easier to source rims along with a major braking upgrade as Pootrols are very common.

As I am also planning on a M57 upgrade I figure some serious driveline strength would be needed and I figure Patrols are a better starting point.

Thanks everyone, as I said earlier, currently this is still in the bench racing stage but I want to work through as much as possible before I start throwing $$$$ around

    cheers
