Could be worn brake pads. Will make a grinding noise as the pad backing plate touches (and damages) the disc and will get progressively worse as the pads wear.

Vlad - Take a peek underneath, air suspension or not you still have shock absorbers. They will be the vertical tube looking thingies near the suspension air bags.

What I meant was that if anything goes wrong down there its usually the EAS (thankfully sorted now!)

Harry rang to tell me he's had a look at the Rangie:

Noise - metal on metal at the rear rotor on one side, but other side not much better and close to min width. Need replacing.

Oil leak # 1 - tappet cover gasket (L&R cylinder banks). Replace. Of course the plenum chamber has to be removed to get to it on that side etc etc = just add to the labour costs.

Oil leak # 2 - power steering box has ***** itself. NOW I'm also told by the Mrs that it "sometimes makes a noise going round corners". If it wasn't (allegedly) "her" car I wouldn't let her drive it anymore !!!! The box requires replacement (on an exchange but still expensiver basis). Or I could just do the seals but I believe they've been done once before (previosu owner) so I think the job needs doing properly this time ! Grrrrr.

Plus I asked them to do a regular service on the thing, as we are planning on driving it down to Barrington Tops for our honeymoon.

We are both VERY unhappy with this sad turn of events especially as we don't have any bloody money left this pay (and still 1 1/2 weeks til next payday). ll the $ is going on the wedding, or so it seems. Thank Crikey I got a 2nd (emergency) credit card recently (for our trip to Canada) which can (just about) take the $1600 hiding it going to cost us.

    Like I said... ****

There is no reason why you cant fit new bush's and seals into the steering box and make it good as new again unless the sector shaft is badly worn.

I've never seen tappet cover gaskets leak that much oil, unless of course someone has stolen your tappet covers completely????
