    Brake Pads

    I have been given the job of doing the front brakes on sons car.

    Car is a daily driver 2012 Mazda 3. He is not a hoon type so high performance brakes are not needed.

    I am going to use standard DBA for rotors, but not quite sure about pads.

    Having done some research Remsa pads get good reviews

    However, there are a couple of options There is the ceramic type pad which I have had no experience with, or just their standard type pad.

    Anyone have any experience with the above or do I just go with the good old trusted Bendix?

    Hi Dave,

    I recently did the wife’s 2010 BK Mazda 3 brakes. Rotors were fine so I just used EBC pads from thier standard range. As this car has fairly decent sized brakes for its weight I didn’t bother going for fancy ones and it stops fine.

    If you do the rears you’ll need to buy or borrow a tool to screw in the pistons - can’t be done any other easy way - I tried! For fronts you don’t need any special tools.

    Changing the fluid is just like any old school car 😊

    I went looking for EBC pads and went to Brakes Direct. They don't sell EBC any more. Talking to them they recommended Brembo pads so I will give them a go.

    I also priced DBA rotors which they sell, but they recommended a brand called Fremax. They recon that they are better than DBA, they are $30 a rotor cheaper and not made in China.

    Anything not made in China has to be better. They claim to have a much higher carbon content and are made in Brazil.

    So I have ordered the above for a total of $197 including freight.
