    Trailer electrical connectors

My new to me FL2 came without a towbar and electrics.
Have since fitted towbar and electrics.
Electrics from car are 7 wires (round)
My trailers ( boat and box) are both 5 wires (in 7 flat).
How do I go about getting from 7 pin to 5 pin without spending huge $$$ on getting trailer(s) connected to car so I can use them.
The electrics on car were fitted on a FL2 previously before I bought the towbar/electrics as they have the LR logo on them.
I did buy a round to flat connector but its 7 round to 7 flat and some of the lights didnt work properly when I had it connected up to my old L322
    Any advice,help greatly appreciated.

    cheers

Adaptors are the easiest way, available from Jaycar, Repco, et al.

It's simple enough to make your own, but probably dearer.

    Ian,
I already have a 7 pin round to 7 pin flat accessory.
What I would like is a 7 pin round to a 5 pin round ( as I already have done one of the trailers to round.)
I'd like to know how to get the wiring between the 2 of them to work properly as they didnt quite work properly on my L322.
Do I cut some wires off the car sector and close them off(2 and 5) as I dont have brakes or reversing signal on trailers?
    Thanks

DiscoDB posted a very good diagram in post 5 of this thread.

    Reverse light power.

With all of these trailers, I'd just rewire them all to 7 pin flat. The Narva parts are cheap and its very easy to do yourself.

And about standard for 90% of light trailers in Australia.

I sorted my issue with having 1 vehicle with 7 pin flat (Toyota) and the Disco with the 7 pin round, I just spliced both connectors on the trailer so which ever vehicle is doing the towing I just plug the correct plug into the vehicle, pretty straight forward. I used to have an adaptor on the trailer but after having 2 fail on me and getting a warning from road patrol about trailer lights not working (thankfully indicators were) I wanted a more permanent solution.
No idea if the above helps or not....

    Cheers

Thanks Ian for the thread from DiscoDB.

Will rewire to see how that goes, was following the universal wiring. Forgot that LR would make there wiring slightly different to the norm.

    Trailer electrical connectors

Should note the Australian 7 pin round is different to the UK 7 pin round. The Aus wiring doesn’t split out the left and right side/rear lights (pin 5 and 7) as electric brakes are powered off pin 5. Trailers here just power the side/rear lights from pin 7 only.

JLR would just follow the UK/ISO standard, but I have never checked if the original plugs gets re-wired by LRA.

This is the normal Australian wiring used on trailers:

And this is the ISO1724 pin allocation for the 12N plug that JLR would use:
