    Disco 1 300tdi Air Conditioner into 1993 Defender 110

    Hello All,

Is it possible to transplant the air conditioner from a 1996 Discovery 1 with a 300tdi into a 1993 Defender 110 that did not come fitted with air conditioning?

I have a donor 1996 Discovery 1 with a 300tdi. I bought the Discovery mostly because of the 300tdi as a way to future proof the Defender. The Disco's air conditioner works very well. Or is there too much difference between the 300tdi and the 200tdi in the Defender for it to be a situation where I could unbolt air-conditioning and related ancillaries from the Discovery and bolt it onto the Defender?

Would it be better to find a car with a 200tdi that has air conditioning for a more user-friendly transplant?

If it was possible, I would take the Discovery to an air-conditioner specialist to be checked over and degassed. Or find a mobile air-conditioner mob here in town - not sure if there is one though. Then after the transplant having the Defender checked and gassed by the same mob.

Alternatively, is there a kit available made up of all brand new parts which can be retrofitted to any vehicle as a one size means a crap fit everyone ... oops 'one size fits all'?

    Kind regards
    Lionel

200s being v belt and 300s being multi rib..

not the easiest conversion to pull off.

The condensor wont natively fit, you'll need custom hard lines, the evaperator wont fit. the blower definately wont fit, The controls would have to be cobbled..

Not impossible but probably cheaper to roof mount something else and cobble it together or grab something designed for a caravan, cut a hole in the roof and bolt it in, something like a 12v dometic.

    Hello Dave,

So something like this ... accessed 3rd December 2023 from, R-6101 Rooftop | Automotive Air Conditioning Systems and Components.. I just checked the price on Repco... $4,514. Looks like I will be just winding down the windows.

I wonder how hard it is to take a step back in time and retrofit quarter vent windows like the olden day cars used to have?

    Kind regards
    Lionel
