Try Performance exhaust in New St Ringwood, had them do the system in my Daimler,- 2 mufflers and tail pipes $400.
Hi all,
I'm thinking of replacing the exhaust on my 97 V8 man disco (its a keeper) with a 2.5in stainless steel system.
Just got the first price from a local place for 2.25in (said you don't need 2.5in) y piece back for $1500. Seemed much higher than what I have read around here and I think the guy mave have just pulled the figure out of his bum.
I'm obviously going to get some more prices... further from the city.
What should it cost roughly for a custom mandrel bent 2.5in s.s system with high flow muffler and resonator?
Is it worth putting headers / extractors on it too? I've been told by a LR expert that it won't make any real difference for the price.
Any first hand experience with this kind of upgrade and any recomended exhaust shops in melbourne's east?

Mandrel = Ricer boy racer and is unnecessary in the extreme on these vehicles.Originally Posted by njz

Now ask yourself, is it a keeper (eg. 5+ years)
My Mild Steel Exhaust with SS Muffler lasted 4 gruelling years with no issue, Box $160.00 pipework $400.00
Extractors help marginally, but $$$ v Gains is poorly balanced.
With the pressure generated by the V8 press bends will flow far more than enough, for a much greater reduction in price.
Mandrel is chump money!!!!!!!!!!

OK,, so whats inside a cat convertor?
is it straight through or baffled or ??
after looking at the manifold I cant help but think a nice 4-2-1 would work wonders,
ditch the rear pipe,,
cut and replace the silencer---
yea,, ok ok.
throw the lot in the bin and start from the head!
I wonder who does a nice extractor?![]()

I got my disco v8 done about 2 months ago. New y piece from the base of the extractors to a 2.5" mild press bend system. For mild steel it was $700 and stainles would have been around $1000. No cats in a '97 disco either which cuts the cost right down. I think $1500 is too much. You really need to replace the y-pipe. All the exhaust shops rekon it was the most restrictive part of the system.
Mandrel bends are very expensive in comparison to crush bends.
I looked at a 3.9 1998 Disco this week that had a 2.5in exhaust. Sounded fantastic. He told me that when he got it done the shop told him that he would be wasting his money on extractors. Don't know what sort of muffler he had.

Extractors get your gases out faster which extends torque curve, ie earlier & lasts longer, see towing & long hills. engine efficiency improves from easier breathing ie faster gas flow, and lower engine temps from hottest part of engine. Volumetric efficiency improves. 2.5" in tube in combination with a straight thru muffler will give a vgood improvement in all driving conditions not to mention the juicy v8 rumble! I've driven plenty of RRS & Disco's & know what a difference the exhaust system can make.
Get out an hammer it.
Yep, my vote is with Performance Exhausts in Ringwood. 9870 4977. They have done 4 Rangies for me and family members - good fitting, and like everything these days, you get what you pay for.
