You have a different exhaust? Is it much noisier inside the cabin?

This is all interesting. I have a 2001 and it was used as a test bed to build the ECU mods. I don't get the surging or the shutting down. I just have probs with the gearbox temp shooting up then dropping just as quick. Mine is also one of the first auto conversions he did and I now know he does the auto mods slightly differently due to the heat issues.

I dont have any issues with my one either. I wonder if there is a difference in the flash ECU's over the chip swap ECU's. Mine is an old style swap the chip ECU.

Auto also. I found all of my transmissions problems stemmed from a ATF cooler that was blocked full of mud - so basically the air wouldn't flow through it. Since replacing it, there has been no issues.

The surging in low range is a worry, I can`t really afford to have this problem as most of my sand driving is done in the low box, and sending the ECU back to Bruce from Dubai if it does need tweaking would be a major PITA.

I`m glad I started this thread as it has nearly turned my off doing the re-map, if I lived near Melbourne it would be different, but having these potential problems whilst living out here just would`nt be worth the agro.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

Sure is. I thought that I had done a pretty good job of cleaning the radiators, even with the special radiator cleaning wand that I had made, but I was very wrong. The transmission specialists were shovelling the dirt off their floor. The problem is that its jammed inbetween teh AC condensor, and the radiator, and then it sits down low under the intercooler.

This is what came out. (replaced due to a leak, not because it was muddy)

Noddy thanks for you honest answer, I also know of another non-satisfied customer who went back to the std ECU. You hear lots of people raving about how good his work is, but not many bad ones.

JE Engineering in the UK also have a great reputation for re-flashing ECUs, I also think there are several dealers who will incorporate the upgrade without effecting the warrenty.

I wonder if EGT is one of the perameters that Bruce and the others monitor whist doing the re-map or just the dyno reading and exhaust analysis.

I had been tempted to chip it but have come to the conclussion that if I do anything it will be a re-mapped ECU so as all the perameters are monitored, not just an increase in the injector pulse length.
    Hi Cols,

I'd have to agree. I've never noticed an EGT sensor in a standard Td5 exhaust, so it's got me beat how the ECU would know it needs to reduce the fuelling...

I'm working on a EGT gauge with an audible alarm at the moment. Send me a PM if you'd like to be kept informed of progress.

    Noddy

I take it you have the Flashable NNN prefix ECU?

Didnt you also upgrade the intercooler? Have you got Bruces mild or Wild tune in the ECU?
