    Tweeking a TDI

I've got my Bus (97 130 TDI Defender) at the shop getting the fuel pump re mapped new injectors dyno tuned and the boost upped on the turbo.
I was wanting to know what you guys Thought about also putting a bigger exhaust system and intercooler would that make a noticeable differance or would i just be throwing $ away..
i'm a chef by trade so don't know that much .I know enough to know that it would make a differance but Would it be money well spent.
    cheers Dman

Fuel pump re mapped??? confused me How is this done on a 300TDi?

I'm in the process of sourcing a 3" mandrel bent straight through system and a bigger I/C See Jase this forum) and a EGT gauge, then I will employ Rich (KIE4) to do the adjusting for the extra ponies. but re-mapping sounds electronic and I don't have that on either of my 300TDi's.

its the equivalent of remapping an ecu.......they will tweak the injection pump which will give the extra ponies.....

a bigger and better more efficient intercooler and bigger exhaust will make a difference.....

the intercooler will give more ponies as it cools the intake air better and therefore you get more
air and fuel into the combustion chamber......which gives a bigger bang.....(good thing)....

and the bigger exhaust will help to get rid of the bigger bang easier and faster.....making way for the next big bang....
it also alows the turbo to spool up quicker...or should i say lower in the rev range.......
due to less back pressure......this means less turbo lag.......

now...with the turbo and everything working a bit harder....i would also invest in some type of turbo timer......

i was told the last of the 300tdi's HAD ecu's for fuel...

hang on this is a 97 model. but still a bit of info.

oh..... 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust with one straight through muffler. as this will drop the egt's you can turn up the fuel a bit.... i would not turn the boost up they already run about 15psi.

HI Dman, i a chef as well (21 years ) although no longer in the kitchen any more and i have rebuilt more cars than i can think of and done a couple of lpg conversions and other mods. If you look at a post by Jase he is having intercoolers made that are a direct replacement and provide better flow and cooling.

    regards,
    nick.
