mark, that looks good, one thing i also should have mentioned ,
to make sure that the shackle will fit the reco point once it is fitted.
we recently had the opportunity to tug a mighty strong lifted and big wheeled toyo [outlaw recovered it] from a spot of bother he got himself into -trouble was -the recovery holes in his bar were too close to the sheet metal of the bar for a shackle to fit, we ended up pulling on the bar itself, at the outer end, which would have the potential to distort the bar.

How I see it working on a d2

The only way I can see a bullbar working on a car with crashcans effectivelly is if the cans have a rubber stub connected to the front. The bar would therefore have to be a thin steel or aluminium backing plate with holes for thecrush cans to protrude the rest would be a three metal box construction on both sides and in between the crush cans. The rubber stubs would take the main impact of a collision and cruch the cans. The three box sections would stay intact but thats the least of your worries once your dashboard explodes in your face. The main bracing to the chassis therefore could be whatever you like.
As long as the stubs protrude enough for the cans to crush completely and activate the airbags in effect it shouldn't be a problem.

If I'm wrong please explain it too me.

    Mat,

Take a look at the pic from under my car....

    http://www.aulro.com/app/showfull.php?photo=568

The clean black bit in front of the recovery point is an ARB crush can off a DII Bull Bar. I got a second hand bar... but bought new cans - as the idiot I bought it from told me it just mounted on the original aluminium bumper mounts

I could belt the ARB cans with a big hammer and I doubt they would bend... so only a really hard front end impact is going to crush them...

It is hard to see but really close to the recovery point the box has a crease in it.. that is where it crushes.

I believe in the DII the air bags are activated by an inertia switch in the console..

I was also told by a wrecker that he has seen many DIIs written off with front end damage - and the air bags have not deployed

So I figure I'll just try and avoid either crushing the cans... or needing the airbags..
