    3.5lt carb to efi

can anyone tell me if the efi will fit onto a carby version of 3.5,and is there any difference in the heads ,carby to efi,am sick of thumper marking its territory ,its good for keeping the dust down on the long driveway ,but is starting to get worser and not good for customers driveways ,
thinking either get an old carby version and rebuild ,or just do up some heads and change them over, dont have the luxury of backup vehicle since the old toyosan ute went

    Dont do it!
I actually went the other way and sold off my efi and bought an edelbrock manifold and bolted on a quadrajet. More power, more reliability, better economy than the efi, no injector noise on the HF radio, I can see the motor and work on it easily etc etc. No, there are absolutely no problems with hills of any sort, up or down.

I've got an 87 efi and an 83 Twin Carb, Carb uses a fair bit less fuel and hugely cheaper should anything go wrong and it's also alot simpler.
I personally perfer the carby setup, but I can't speak for later model injection setups (hotwire etc)

ok,so theoretically if i ditch the efi motor and drop a carby version in ,what happens with all the elecktrickery for the injectors and stuff ,will the confuser get totally flabergasted and shut it all down?

Sorry, misread your original post. Did not realise you already had efi. probably easier to keep it if you are happy with it. If you want to change to carby/carbys then you dont need any of the efi wiring loom, computer etc. all you need to do is rewire the fuel pump, as the original pump is switched on by the airflow meter.

Your ignititon/ distributor will run independant to the efi. so you can remove the ecu from under the seat with the complete loom. rewire the ignition and fuel pump. not sure about the manifold through. I have a friend with an edlbrock manifold he wants $200 for it.
you should be able to sell the ecu and loom to someone. The rock crawlers like the efi rovers for their rigs.

There is no reason why the efi cant be made more reliable and i doubt anyone who says a stock twin carb RR is more economical than an efi unless your efi is stuffed. Fit an aftermarket ecu that can be tuned and replace all the lucas rubbish and you will be fine. A single 2/ 4 brl carb can be setup to be economical but there is nothing like the smoothness of an efi motor.EFI heads have a notch in the top of the intake ports for the injector stream but are otherwise the same.

hmmmmm, seems i didnt quite explain myself very properly ,what i wanted to know (i think) was, if i get a carby motor, will the EFI manifold bolt up properly, failing that, does anyone have a spare set of efi heads floating around that they no longer want/need?
