    Clutch flywheel ring gear teeth

    Hi,

    I have a Series 2a 1963 2.25 Petrol which I'm rebuilding.

    I'm replacing the clutch however unsure of the condition of my flywheel / ring gear and would appreciate some advice.

    I've shown my flywheel to a couple of Landy people, where one says the ring gear teeth are stuffed & need to be replaced (the tapered / rounded edges). The other says it's normal and completely fine....

    Looks pretty worn to me. With careful heating ( to expand it ) you can take it off and turn it around. You can get new ones, which need to be heated to put them on. If you do get a new one you can just split the old one with a cold chisel. Check the teeth on the starter as well.

    it'd run as is but its out so worth replacing.

    the place you send it to to get the face machined should be able to get the old ring gear off but that said.....

    pick a root between 2 teeth, drill a small hole parallel to the teeth through the metal below the root. Put your mightyest chisel in above the hole and whang it with your favorite full sized kenetic engergy trasnfer tool.

    it should crack and fall off.

    to install your replacement, annoy your wife by telling her your going to bake her something, preheat the oven to about 250 then insert the ring gear, let it heat up for about 30 minutes and then drop it onto the fly wheel. you only get one shot and generally you only need one shot so long as you remember to check the orientation of the tooth taper on the ring gear.
