    Oil analysis in WA

    G'day Nutbags,

Due to the impeding departure of my old man, I'm having to take over the maintenance of his boat on behalf of Mum.
This has a couple of 7L Volvo MD71 based donks with twin-disc boxes on the back. Overall 4 sumps and about 60L of oil. Given the little use this thing gets, my spidey senses tell me it'd be worth me getting 4 oil analysis done rather than routine changing 60L of oil once a year when it may have accumulated 20 hours in that time.

So, not having ever done an oil analysis before how would one begin? I mean even if I threw in a sample from the 5 sumps in the D3 and 3 from the TR4A we're looking at less than 15 a year. I do have a company, so I can use that if necessary.

Can anyone offer advice or a reference to a lab in WA that won't take the **** and doesn't make life difficult for a small time operator?

Castrol used to do them for free.
Check out what your preferred brand of oil offer.

Try a PM to IsuzuRover. He’s at UWA and did some work in that area.

As a private nobody just wanting a single oil analysis done after suspecting the wrong oil had been used during my D4 service I went to Westrac's lab in Guilford, explained my problem and they were extremely helpful.

They gave me sample kit, did the analysis and provided a phone number to speak to the oil lab guys after the analysis to further explain the results and answer further questions. All up cost was ~$30.

And yes, the wrong oil grade was shown to have been used.
