    Weight of a Series 1

    Hi all,

I did a silly thing today and bought a series 1 off e-bay, now I will have to get it home. It is a 57 model so it will have the longest wheelbase of the series 1 shorties - 88"???

Can anyone tell me the unloaded weight as I need to work out some towing weights - also anyone know the typical weight of a mediam size car trailer - 1000kg?

    Thanks

1700kg approx if you look up some old threads we did this exercise for Omaroo in the last few weeks.
To answer the next question don't go to a hire place go to a service station to hire the car trailor.

the weight of the trailor and car might be a bit much for the freelander though have you electric brakes?
How far do you need to tow?

Well the 80" was listed as 1136kg, but the 88 will be a bit more than that, perhaps 1500kg I would expect.

Just checked my owners handbook for the Series 2a - basic 88 was 1339kg, 1488 for the station wagon, so any other bodies would be in between. The 88 Series 1 will be a little less but not much - the 2l engine was a bit lighter, and the body was a bit lighter, and the increased track would have added 10kg or so, but otherwise they were very similar vehicles.

I looked at the last rego paper for my 80", tare weight 1170kg, GVM 1833 kg. It is powered by a Series 3 diesel though.

Are you going to tow it with the Freelander?

The general consensus is a 2 litre (actually has a 186 in it so engine weighs less) series 1 shorty weight is 1300kg. Dunno what the weight of a car trailer is - so assuming 1000kg.

The Freelander while it is bigger than you think comes in at a tow weight 2000kg so am looking at alternatives - most ordinary cars cannot tow as much as the Freelander. The obvious is my brothers 94 mitsu****ty tri-too turbo diesel which has towed my Freelander which weighs 1600kg, did it OK but it actually has a lower tow weight than the Freelander at 1800kg and has less power and torque.

I need a guess of the trailer weight so I can work out which of my mates I can hit on to tow the car.

Thanks for the options and help. Oh I did tow my previous series 1 with a sigma for about 100km without problems - suspect the load was about double the sigma tow capacity though.

a Uhaul car tandem axle car trailer weighs 750kgish.
a BP car trailer is a little heavier.

both are only rated to 1200kg

This is apparently for insurance. If they do their job right, the wont let you tow it off the lot if you cant prove your vehicle can pull 2000kg legally.
