Hi Grover
Sounds suspiciously like a blocked fuel tank breather
Andrew
I have a series 1 1995 V8 disco. The problem is a humming coming from the fuel tank. There seems to be some sort of Vapour lock, If you Take petrol cap of the humming goes. The Engine starts fine first time but if you drive short distance and try and restart, say after you drive a coupkle of KM to shops it struggles to get fuel to engine. I pulled fuel pump out and had a look, didn't really know what I was looking for. The humming Is intermitent and the revs when it is struggling for fuel ,are lower, but that is also intermitent . I have repleced fuel filter.
If anybody has come across this problem with the fuel pump, I would appreciate your wisdom

Don't suppose you have any Idea where the breather is situated. Thanks for tip
There isn't really a "breather" to the atmosphere....but a line running to the EVAP [carbon] canister in the engine bay....you could very well have a blocked or pinched/squashed line....it runs from the top of tank alongside fuel line to engine bay.....It might also be a faulty pressure/vacuum relief valve in the fuel cap [correct type???].....very unlikely is a totally blocked filter in EVAP canister [unlikely]....sorry 'bout the brevity - but it's my 1st post/answer on here and I "lost" the very full reply I at first tried to post....and got verrrrry! p...d off!
still not bad for a first post Byron,,,
