    Alternator for defender

Me again, man of 1000000 questions.
    1. Whats the size (eg output) of a factory fender alternator, Nov 99 model.

    2. Whats the biggets alternator I can put on to replace it without causing any dramas. The one on there does the trick now running my dual battery system, 12 volt lighting system in the tray, elec winch and 1 engel (40 litres) along with 2x100w driving lights.

I ask as I'm looking at running another engel (40 litre) and 4 more spots (with aftermarker 55w globes) so want to have enough power output. I'd thought of having everything running from the second battery (lights, winch) I have now and just the 2 fridges running off a 3rd battery.

    3. To run both fridges I'm looking at another deep cycle battery hooked up to solar to assist (as well as alternator) but would like alternator input to this when possible. Any suggestions on size of panel needed and battery amp hour needed?

    cheers

    Just as an idea...

the 2nd fridge shouldn't draw too much power if used responsibly.

So put the money you would have spend on the solar panel, the four extra lights and the bigger alternator and the extra battery plus solenoids and relays; into a set of HID Driving Lights.

They'll give you more light and only draw 35W each.

In fact, if you sell your current spot lights, you'll probably use less power than you use now.

I say sell, because Hella Predator HID lights will light up for a kilometer, but retail for $1,600ea .

Anyway I'm sure you could get a better deal than retail Hella prices on HIDs.

anyone know if there is a difference between the rallye 4000 and the similar but HID version......
not the globe and electrics.....but the housing and reflector....

there are a few cars coming out now with HID lighting as standard......
i was thinking a trip to the wreckers and a bit of modifying might work......
    maybe....?

not a bad idea but I already have the extra spots and the extra battery/s I got for nix from a mate who knows a bloke who does the batteries for those battery scooters. They run a gel cell 12v of some sort I'm told are sweet for cars when run in a bank (30-40ah each i think but very very small) and they cost the earth but they have to change them every 12 months so the batteries are just about new. true using the secong fridge should be ok if responsible as it will be used as a freezer so opened once/twie a day.

thanks for the tips so far.

    Hella predator HIDs

They are differences in the body's, the rear of the predators is larger not sure of any tech specs differences
I have predators now on 2 cars BY FAR the best lights I have ever seen or owned
I had the globe type rally 4000s on the disco (was my car then the wifes)
and bought a set of predators when I a got new jap (yuk) work ute
yes I got a shakey paying fro them (especially the first set)
but once you have them you'll never go back
when it came time to buy lights for the wifes RR it was no contest
(left the 4000s on the disco when I sold it)
now have fender ute to replace the jap one and will take the predators off the jap ute B4 I sell it and put em on the fender

    Jase

you can buy chepa HID conevrsion sets (ebay ect) I would be ineterested in seeing a set in some globe 4000's to see the differance ??
