Dosn't sound right. Mine are close enough to change them all at the same time. Disco2
Can someone please explain why the wear is 3:1 rears:fronts...it seems to be counter intuitive. I always thought that the front brakes did the work..on mine it is the opposite

You cant make it a lot? And spend most of your time driving backwards down hills?
Tombraider
But seriously... are you heavily laden? Tow a lot?
Strangely enough, I found exactly the same while touring Oz.
OK... I was carrying a heavy load but I don't think that's all of it. The other thought I had was the terrain I was on. Pad wear was at its worst when on sand so what I was wondering was the following:
Could it be the dust that's being kicked up by the front tyres that's getting dragged into the rear brakes and therefore creating the excessive wear??
/Discuss...
I reckon Camel Landy has the answer.
The rear rotors on my 130 (which has done mainly offroad work up north) are worn significantly more than the fronts. And the rear passenger side one is much worse than the drivers side. My mechanic said this is very common as the passenger side is the first to hit the dirt/dust.
It may just be a Landy thing as both my previous Defenders went through rear pads quicker than fronts and it appears to be a similar wear pattern with this current Disco.
Now that you mention it Mahn,,
My D1 did wear the backs out first--
maybe sand??
does seem strange though--

We find the same situation here, rear pad wear is much faster than front. If there has been rain during tourist season, we are just about guaranteed to run out of rear pads for just about every Land Rover model there is.
I could only put it down to the dust and mud theory
The fronts are barely worn after 60,000 km. The rears last about 60,000 km
The diesel helps in 2 ways...it isn't a sports car and the engine braking reduces the use of the pedal.

My old Rangie used to be the same, defender seems to be about even. The rear pads are significantly smaller though.
