Thread: Gearbox selection issues with 110 Defender 200tdi

Hello All,

Were there any issues associated with gear selection from High to Low in the manual gearboxes fitted as standard to 1993 Defender 110 fitted with the 200tdi. I recall that once attempts are made to move out of low gear into high gear the gearbox effectively goes into neutral and zero progress forward or backward is achieved. Regardless of where the main gear shift is positioned nothing happens. Yes, I am writing about my 'mate' Snowy!

PS: it could be moving out of high to low gear - it was a while ago. I found one selection works and have since kept the box positioned there. I filed it under the "problem to sort out on another day" folder. It seems that day is soon approaching. I am hoping for a simple fix. You know being optimistic. Sigh!

Hi Lionel,
I'm not completely clear on what your asking.
The transfer case has a neutral between hi and low, it's used when using a power take-off.
Mine, a 300Tdi so different gearbox but same transfer case, is quite stiff shifting between hi and low, sometimes I need to let the car roll a bit, or select 1st and ease off the clutch as I push it into hi range.
