Michael.
Does anyone know if the 1st generation(c. 1975-1983-ish) GM HEI Distibutor fits into a distributor-ed LR/RR V8 engine [or any other LR engine] as a straight forward swap?.....These are thought of as good, simple, reliable and cheap for use in most GM engines [that had any sort of distributor]....Any feedback?

Byron, have you thought about Ford EDIS as an alternative?
I have been thinking about HEI for a while now, but have changed track and now installing the EDIS.
Have sourced the EDIS module and twin coil packs (4 outlets each).
Now all I need is the leads, 36-1 tooth gear, and a megajolt controller.
Then there will be no more distributor (well not realy, need the oil pump drive)
Should be a much better setup compared to HEI.

But, this is getting away from what is simple and easy for a gifted amateur to retro-fit to what is basically a late 1950's designed and early 60's 1st produced engine we know as our beloved LR/RR V8...the latest GEMS and Motronics versions do this very very well......but it's hard enough transplanting all the ancillary works n bits n bobs and have all the engines gear already in/on the motor......to do it from scratch is I would venture, nearly impossible.....![]()
BUT, tell me more about your thoughts.![]()

How bout an ignition system of a late model Valiant. It can handle a beating and the whole system could be bought fairly cheaply.
