    2004 D2 V8 O2 Sensor issues, Please help!

    Hey Guys,

Little bit new to Landy life,I’ve had my car for about a year.
When we first got her her engine light came on,took her to a place they put in a new O2 sensor and were like oh it’s because you don’t have cats, they said it’s fine to drive around like this.
They made me buy these weird little cat things that attach to the back O2 sensors.
was driving fine but still we had an engine light, they told me we need to get the cats back to make it go away.
anyway a couple of months go she started driving rough so scanned her and lots of bank 1 o2 sensor issues.
we did the o2 sensors, coil packs, leads, plugs, rocker cover gasket things you name it we did it ( this was ourselves )
still running rough,so we got an old exhaust with the cats and put that on.
still not right, took it back to the place they have no idea, and to. Be. Honest I don’t think they ever had an idea.
they were like sell her make her someone else’s problem and I was like no I love my landy!

so now we have to try figure out where to start…
    is it the ecu
    is it the cam shaft?

running rough, dirty plugs only on the bank 1 side…..

    ahhhhhh help!

typing this on the iPad ,laptop is flat but as soon as I can scan her again will get the codes.

    Thank you!!!

    D2 V8 O2 sensors are a bother!

I'll just mention that I know next to nothing about the Motronic engine management system... However...

I was not aware that NZ had both upstream AND downstream O2 sensors, AU doesn't as far as I'm aware.

If you need both sensors you will get a fault if you have removed the cat that's after the upstream sensor, no easy way around it

The other thing to remember is that there is a specific "installation" procedure required, involving diagnostic equipment and certain drive-cycle procedures, if not done, you will get faults.

Someone with some actual knowledge may be able to help you out more.

    Cats??
for starters (change garages) only buy genuine bosche, beware of cheap ones from USA, they will be for the rear and DONT work on our fronts.
Could also be the MAF sensor..
You really need to see what codes are showing...

Did you scan with a Nanocom? If you intend to continue to service your D2, this a must in my opinion. It would have been a better investment than using the parts cannon.
Shack is spot on, when replacing a sensor there is a procedure that the Nanocom can initiate to reset the ECU. When I replaced my O2 sensor the change didn’t have the desired effect until this reset was done, and the performance change was instant.
Also, monitor the output of the O2 sensors to ensure they’re working.
