Purple Cruise Control Wire Connections 1998 Discovery 1

    Hello All,

Does anyone know where the two purple wires associated with the cruise control - as shown in the photograph, get connected to?

My 1998 Discovery 1 came with the steering wheel airbag and the wiper/indicator/headlight set removed. The Resume (+) and Set (-) cruise control switch that is fitted to the steering wheel and some the two purple wires were left hanging in the breeze.

It would be good to know where these two wires connect up to.

The car is currently unable to start. It would be good to be able to eliminate these two wires as the possible cause. I also bought the spider bypass unit that goes behind the fan and heater control panel - just in case there was a fault with the spider unit.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Doubt the cruise would prevent starting, but it is a LR... Don't see the purple wires here.

I might be totally off track here, but might the purple wires go to the horn switch?

    Cheers,
    Mick.

    Hello Tins,

    Wot' a wiring diagram... OMG!!!

One of my next questions - what is the best and most recommended workshop manual for the Discovery 1 - especially the 1998 or the 1996 to 1998 era? Things that show what goes where - or what more pertinent to my current situation - what should be there to go where. As in parts missing in action and parts and functions of those lead astray - and thereof.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Hello Mick,

I will need to find either a workshop manual or find a similar era Disco that is being wrecked to identify what goes where. Things with wires connecting with black boxes that cost a motza to replace make me very cautious about connecting wires via trial and error.

    Kind regards

Lionel, I uploaded a manual here . I have some others for various bits and bobs. Let me know what you want and I'll see if I have it.

    Hello Tins,

Thank you for posting the link to the Workshop Manual. Very interesting diagram on page 341 (PDF page counter). Clearly labelled are two very distinct wires labelled as "Number 5". These two wires - as suggested previously by other contributors to this thread - go to the horn tabs. As per diagram J5451.

That is one mystery solved. Thank you to everyone who did contribute to this thread.

I just watched a YouTube video about fitting a cruise control kit to a Discovery 2. It was pretty underwhelming in detail. All the things I wanted to find out about were not featured. I did learn though that I have to be on the look out for an E shaped bracket that holds the cruise control switches to the steering wheel bracket. Plus two screws. Wish me luck trying to find those parts!

I suppose things are easier to find when you know what you are looking for ... well, fingers crossed!

    Kind regards
    Lionel
