I live in a very nice 20 degree climate most of the year and I'm a tight@r53 so my climate control very rarely gets used when I'm the only on in the car.
If your that tight, , then you really should be worried that driving around at more than 20kph with the windows open for air, causes more aerodynamic drag and resultant loss in fuel economy than if you shut them and use the A/C -sensibly, not turn it down till you get icicles forming on your rearview mirror!

Dobbo,, if you want your front shaft done go to Gibson engineering at Edgeworth, not to far away for you, They do a good job, they did mine it cost me around 300ish, dont remember the exact figure. They also did the shaft in my commodore for me, that was about 6 years ago and its still going strong even with my heavy right foot and love for the smell burnt rubber...

I'm not that tight it's just I prefer natural air than circulated, I don't live in a smog filled city and am still able to get the nice smells of nature wafting through the vents or windows as I drive along. If it's hot the climate control goes on, if it's not the vents are opened or the windows lowered. The climate control is set for 20 degrees on both sides and this is usually what it stays on. As for the drive shaft I'm not worried at the moment, there is slight play but only slight. I'll invest in a greasable unit in the future.

Any play in a uni joint is not good. I'd be getting it done sooner than later Mat.
They can cause serious damage if they let go.

Yep, I agree with Scott, Get it sorted out if it has play in it, Mine went from being nice and solid to totaly flogged out with in a couple of weeks, if you start hearing any noise from it best just to get it rebuilt, they took 2-3 days with mine, i just drove with the CDL lock and no front shaft while they had it.

trying to remember,,, i dont remember if the play was in the unis or what? bad memory hehehe - first sign of trouble i got was a faint squeak.

And i dont think lifting the car 2in is going to make much difference to the life of the shaft, i spoke with the guy who did mine because i was worried the lift would be the cause of the the shaft failure, he said its water, mud, dust etc that kill them and that i should give it a little bit of grease pretty regulary especialy after doing alot of muddy driving.

I'll investigate when I won't get drenched looking under the car. From memory it had a very minute amount of play. And the car has only done a few hundred km's since due to the week and a half it was out of action.

Go figure a modern day car that falls apart after 100000km's.

The old Series is looking better every day. It's still in one piece.

My front shaft died at around 70000, engine mount at 80000, the car also had a gearbox and clutch done at 55-60000 just after i got the car, i dont think i have enough time to go through all the other things that have been replaced on my car before it run out of warranty!
