    "Side Light" Dash light.

I picked up my 2001 Def yesterday, and just got a question, when I turn my lights on, I get the green dash light come on, when looking in the book its called 'Side Lights'

What does it mean, is it correct ... and what the hell is it!

    Thanks in advance,

    Cameron

Side lights are usually what we in the colonies call parking lights.

Does the green light go out when the engine is running?

It's just the warning light to tell you your lights are on.

In Oz, that's probably true. But in grey, cloudy, old Britain it's probably visible all the time!

Mine comes on and stays on with parking lights/headlights. I thought it was showing me that the lights are working but they came on even whe the lights had failed.

Another thing you might find weird is the flickers. They have a strange relationship with the towbar wiring. So they'll flash once and then stop if your trailer lights aren't working. Only sometimes they'll flash once and stop even though you don't have a trailer and you get out and find all flickers on the car are fine. Then the "phantom trailer" will start working properly again and you wonder if some moisture got into the trailer plug but then you realise to don't wonder about these things becasue down that path lies madness.

Extract from owners manual (for a D1 but seems like they are the same
