They were originally 5 on 6.5". Maybe that was metricised when LRs were to 5 on 165mm (only 0.004" different).

I thought that the P38/D2 etc were 5 on 4.5", not 5 on 120mm which is about 4.7"

Thanks, that has cleared that up for me.
Does any one know why it was changed? Is it something to do with the way the hub was manufactured or it is so the centre of the wheel is smaller?

This came up when the D2 was released. One of the dealers brought one to an LROC meeting.

The D2 was a fresh design, not an update of the old chassis. Maybe the last design ever of the live axle f&R concept.

Anyway, the design brief in part was supposed to be better ride/handling. Part of that was changing the offset, & moving the steering knuckle deeper inside the wheel for better response or something.

The story goes that the design was different enough that the factory didn't want liability issues with people swapping wheels, & altered steering behaviuor. So the stud pattern was changed so you couldn't. The old & new chassis designs stand alone.

My idea is to get Land Rover defender hubs fitted to the camper trailer and then when we get the Disco 2 for the misses, get a set of these and we can take the 90 or the disco but change the trailer wheels over depending on which car we take. So then the trailer and car rims will match
Spacers/adaptors like that are not legal for use on cars in Australia, I don't think you could use them on a trailer either.
