A friend does eith zooks trick or wollies oil in 100 km while he flogs it. THen changes the oil again. He is normally working on very tired motors though so the owners tend to be willing to do anything to sort it out quick and cheap.

Use a better quality oil. A few thousand ks of driving with a fully synthetic oil should fix it. A few mates have had noisy lifters on thier cars and the noise has gone after using a quality oil for a while. If you dont service the vehicle yourself take the oil you want to use with you and instruct whoever is servicing the vehicle to use what you give them.
