Hi all,
I bought a 95 4.6 HSE 2 months ago, and have started to experience the dreaded electrical probs that I've heard/read so much about:
1. The remote keys never worked, and no matter what key sync instructions I tried, it wouldn't sync. I suspect that the RF receiver has been disabled due to the prob with RF signals 'waking up' the car and flattening the battery.
2. The doors randomly locked twice. Fortunately the keys weren't in the car when it happened out at the shops.
3. I get" RH/LH bulb fail" messages failed now and then. Bulbs are fine.
4. Alarm has started going off recently. Popping the bonnet catch when locking the car seems to prevent the alarm going off.
5. When towing a horse float, the electric brake controller suddently switched off saying 'no connection'. Happened twice, but haven't been able to deliberately duplicate it yet. (Not really confident towing in case it happens at a critical moment)
Are there any fixes for these probs or am I going to spend a fortune on getting a professional to try and find the causes (let alone try and fix 'em!)
Now I see why they devalued so much. Hate to have spent over $100k on a new one.......
Any suggestions gratefully received.....

Check out ALL of your EARTHS, Regards Frank,
when you checked the bulbs.....did you find any corrosion in any of the globe sockets or connectors....?
also...were any of the globes getting a black or silver film building up inside them....
Hey BR,
I have an 01 model and it has had a couple of niggly elec probs. The best forum to look at for these types of things is www.rangerovers.net it is a wealth of info. Go to the 4.0 4.6 forum a lot of the guys who own them here are on that forum aswell.

I've had one since brand new and think it's a great car....only really major expense was replacing 2 rear air bags [as in suspension] and some related electronics repairs when car was 7 1/2 years old....everything else OK......but I think I understand your problems, so let me offer some solutions:Originally Posted by black_rangey

(2) Yes mine has done that often! - Don't trust car with windows up and key inside, in lock or not, running or not......secure a spare key with wire under car, hidden.![]()
(3) Yes, it happens....ignore unless on continuosly for more than a week - then check lights!![]()
(4)Mmmmm.....mine only does that if doors or boot or bonnet is NOT fully locked! - can't help you , sorry!![]()
(5) My horses don't like being floated, so I left them to run around with access to horse shed [with lots of yummy horse feed] and they come in at night, if they want to, usually.......So I don't float them or tow anything else.....in fact I took off the controller [its modern looking, industrial design didn't suit the interior decor] and I sometimes banged my leg on it!......so sorry can't help you on that either!![]()
But welcome to the Range Rover universe - sort of like "bizarro-world".....and welcome to this forum!. Like someone else said, just above, we think we'll hear from you a lot and often!![]()

DEFENDERZOOK - haven't checked the globes themeselves - will do that this weekend.
byron - lol @ not trusting the car. Will take that one on board!
I did find some useful tips about the contacts alignment
setting off the bulb failure messages. (yet to confirm / deny if its the cause on my car)
on the wifes 97HSE she had problems with the L/H indicator globe![]()

check the globe many times but nothing was found
turned out to be the wire in the connector itself
darn thing was loose and eventually fell out![]()
never had a problem since
130's rule
friend with similar car had loads of electrical clitchs,
found the radiator hoses leaked very slightly which was enough to upset
a few sensors.
