    Air locker switch position

    Hi all,

For those of you with manual series 1 Discoverys, where have you mounted your air locker switches?

I was going to mount them on the RHS of the gear shifter but there doesn't seem to be enough room with a manual. I've seen them on the trim that folds down under the steering wheel but it is a bit out of the way and will probably get hit by my left knee.
I even thought of the plastic that is in front of the radio but not sure if there is enough clearance underneath it.

I've only got the two switches at the moment (compressor, rear) but room for three switches would be good.

    Thanks.

I went and got factory binacle switches and wired them into the instrument surround.

Nice and easy to get to when needed and neat appearance.

Lockers F & R on Left side, Compressor switch on the right,

    Cheers

It's been a few years since I totalled my D1 and even longer since I put the air lockers in but I mounted the Compressor, Front and Rear switches in 3 of the 4 vertical the switch blanks on the driver's side next to the heater controls. I remember I did have to shave the edges of the switch faces to fit in neatly. It was a very tidy job when done. Sorry no pics though.

I have an alarm light there but that can be moved. It looks too small though. Do you have all 3 switches there?
Won't be at the meeting but I'll look at the Springs if I haven't done it by then.

I am thinking maybe the flat area to the right of the transfer case lever. I'll pull the centre console and look for clearance underneath it later.

I'll look at the spare dash spots too. They didn't look like they would fit at first glance.

I fitted my switches last night. I fitted them in the factory spots under the clock. The cruise control switch was already relocated by the previous owner as his car kit blocked it. I had to do a fair bit of cutting, filing and using a gas knife but I managed to fit them. I'm very impressed with the final outcome. It does only fit two switches but I only have the rear locker at the moment. If I ever get a front one I'll relocate the compressor switch and put the two locker switches there. I really wanted the switches on the LHS of the steering column as being a manual I use my right hand for steering and left hand for everything else.
Now all I need to do is finish fitting the compressor and take the car to ARB to fit the locker on Wednesday

if the switches run through relays.....you could replace them with smaller switches which will fit easier.....

your nearest electronics store will have a wide variety of switches to chose from.....

    just a thought....

I'm just wiring it up as per ARBs instructions so the compressor has a relay and the locker switch is just switching an air solenoid. So I could have used smaller switches but I like these ones . I am a frequent visitor of Jaycar and Electus. All sorts of goodies can be had there.

A mate of mine has his three switches mounted in the roof binacle above the rear view mirror. Front/Rear Arb lockers/ and the third is for the compressor.
It's only low current wires so space to route the cables up the windsheild piller is not really a problem.

    Regards.
