    Disco HSE 2003

I must confess I dont own a disco yet, not sure whether better to purchase a hse2003 td5, or a 2004 td5 classic. I like the sound of ACE and all the other nice things that come standard with the HSE model. Does the ACE work? and are there issues with respect with the maintenance of ACE etc. Can you please advise on Km/tank around suburbs and then on a run to QLD.
    Appreciate your feedback. Thankyou Glenno

    My TD5 gets around 10l / 100km on fuel
As for ACE, I haven't got it and my 02 se model handles great, I have driven an Ace enabled car, I can't personally see what benifit it would give offroad, besides I like to steer by myself, the car does everything else for me, I nead at least one pleasure left out of driving.

My old mans disco has ace in it. And while it's nice and keeps the car upright, it can make the ride a little uncomfortable if you arn't used to it.

Glenno, I have an 02 TD5 ES with ACE. When I first bought the car you could here the ACE when turning corners at low speed, it was a little annoying. I haven't driven a late model without ACE so I cannot comment on the difference. I have since raised the vehicle 1.5 to 2" and the first thing I noticed was that noise had reduced. I now hardly notice it, and the car does handle remarkably well. I have even had comments on how flat the car sits around corners.
As soon as you engage Low range the ACE turns off and you get one hell of a soft articulated ride.
All I can say is drive one with and without ACE and make up your own mind.
The ACE noise varies from one vehicle to another, and it can be as simple as bleeding the system to reduce the noise.
    Cheers Robbo

ACE is nice, you may want to check if your model/year as CDL or not?

I dont recon you need ACE with the cost of Land Rover prices for fixing a minor device.
You cant go past a plain Coil spring and shock set up. With losts of after market coil spring and shock set up's that will fix all your on road and off road needs for half the price of ACE and its extra repair needs.

I have an OME set up that keeps the body roll to hardly noticable on road and handles the weight loaded off road perfectly.

Ace is excellent and allows the car to flex more than a car without it. My car has done 150k and no problems with ACE. I run 32" tyres, 40mm spring lift and she corners flat as a pancake.
As suggested though, make msure your car either has or can be easily fitted with a CDL.
Having ACE also allows to fit softer springs if you like for a softer ride.

ACE is fantastic. I've got a 2003 V8 and it corner's like it's on rails. Much better even than the HiLux I use to have which had IFS.

Glenno, I had ACE on my old Disco II. When I had a non-ACE loan car for a day whilst she was getting the 40k service I couldn't believe the difference. In some ways ACE makes the Disco feel a lot lighter and more nimble - less truck like. Also very handy as you take on more weight, as ACE seems to counteract associated lean.

Apparently, when LR was developing ACE they had to de-tune it slightly because it worked so well that some drivers thought it could defy the laws of physics completely - and had a few topples...!
