For some odd reason, my 4.6 litre cross-bolted block from my P38A has the outer row of 4 bolt holes.

Yes yours must be the 14 bolt head - the 'without suffix B' engine numbers

..............but on some engines i understand that the holes are still in the head - but not used

    Just a query,

Do all of you guys with torque turned head bolts replace the bolts before refitting the head?

I am not entirely familiar with the size of the head bolts on later model Land Rovers however 20nm + 180 degrees would put considerable stretch on most car engine bolts and I know that on all earthmoving machinary with torque turned bolts it is common practice to replace the bolts every time they are removed. This may seem extreme however I have seen reused bolts snap off in the past and when they were inspected each bolt had necked between the head and thread from excessive stretching

The original bolts should be discarded and new ones used each time

My heads don't have the holes, but the block does - which is odd for a cross-bolted block.
