    My cargo drawers and barrier

This post is a description of my cargo drawer and barrier setup in response to a PM from Worraps. I thought I'd post it up for all to see instead of just sending it to Worraps. No measurements yet but I'll add them later.

I bought the Disco with the drawers but fitted the barrier myself last week. The drawers were made by the previous owner and are very well built IMHO The barrier is from a Magna wagon but mounted upside down. The upper mounts are the original forward position floor mounts from the Magna. The bottom mounts are custom jobbies.

Not sure why he made the drawers shorter than full length while putting a pocket along the back. The side pockets make use of otherwise wasted space though. It all works well. The dividers in the drawers are not full height which allows long things to go in the drawers as well.

Fridge tie down and barrier. Tie downs fit the Chescold 3 way that came with the car. A power socket is in the RHS side panel next to the cargo blind hook.

Upper cargo barrier mounts. The gap to the roof is not as large as the photo suggests but still larger than I'd like. When I measured for the lower mounts I didn't take into account that I would need to bend them backwards to take into account the seat angle. I might space the mounts up an inch later but it would only be for asthetics. The upper mounts bolt to the two outer baby bolts which is an idea I stole from Discodan.

why not remove the inward facing rear seat....which cant be used with the drawers in place.....
and gain the benefits of even more storage space......?

its only held in with some torx bolts......

I plan to however I have never had the drawers out. I only bought the car 3-4 weeks ago .

It is a waste of space and I have been concerned about damaging the fabric when I stack stuff on top of it.

hey...looking at those pics again......i think the depth of the drawers was judged by the slides......
    and not the cargo area.........

you could use the space behind the drawers for a water tank......
should be able to easily get 40 or 50 litres in that space......

just my thoughts.....its easier than having to get all the gear out of the back to access the storage under the floor.......

(its like going away with a fully loaded stationwagon......the only time you will ever get a flat tyre is when its fully loaded......
and the spare is under the floor.......)

anyhow...thats just an idea i had......
the setup does look very neat and tidy however......

You might have a point about the slides. As with most things we do they were probably what he could scrounge from work

I have been puting stuff that I don't intend on using in the back compartment. When the fridge is in there it sits across the rear hatch so I can't open it without sliding the fridge forward. It can be a bit of a pain.
I might cut the rear lid in half so then I can at least access half at a time and negate the fact the fridge sits on the RHS of the lid.

    Removal

Myself and a mate would be doing something very similar in our Discos.

How are these draws secured to the floor? I have a concern should I want to replace the fuel pump etc.

How much do you think those draws weigh? Whats the structure made from?

Sorry for all the questions...... I'm a nosey bugger !

    Thanks and regards.

The drawers are not bolted down at all. They don't appear to move and the cargo barrier will stop them going through my head in an accident.
I haven't had them out so no idea on weight. I think they are made of MDF and have been varnished (or something similar).
Don't worry about being nosy. I have crawled throughout other peoples 4x4s to get ideas

looks good. streaky and i have been discussing using some ali box section or L section to make up a frame. only difference is that mine will be full length with no back seats and streaky's will be more like yours. the idea of puttingin a water tank is good...hadn't thought of that. plus i must conisder where i am going to attach the invertor.

If you want to secure it to the floor there should be four bolt holes in the floor for tie down points if you pull the carpet up in the corners you will see the holes for some bolts.
