do you mean a 300tdi?
So we can verify what year model is it?
a TD4 a Freelander engine
Hi guys
I have a chance to live the dream and buy a Defender TD4.
I was pondering, since the engine has done about 250,000, can the TD5, and running gear, gearbaoxes axels, ect be transplanted in it if the old parts fail?
Also, has anyone had any experiance with the length of life from on the TD4's ????
, it has been looked after for the first 100,000 k's and the next 100,000 are a bit of a mystery
thanks for any and all help![]()
safe travels

There was a thread on here a week or so ago about someone looking at a vehicle advertised as a TD4 - wonder if it's the same one - hard to imagine two people making the same mistake at the same time. It was a 300TDi.Originally Posted by roadkill

Given the cost of TD5's you'd probably be better of transplanting a good used Tdi if/when the need arises.
TD5 would be a lot of hassle to transplant with computer, drive by wire etc for relatively little gain. The motor you've got doesnt rely on electronics either and IMHO has a better reputation for reliability than a TD5
i wouldnt worry with the engine diesels are reknown for high milage just change oils and filters at the service intervals and drive it till it stops then worry about a motor swap![]()
