    v8 ignition amp cooked

i think the ignition amp may be cooked on my 110 v8 . its a pig to start, runs badly and i've ruled out plugs, leads, fuel, carbs. so only the dist. and amp are left.

its the lucas amplifier thats mounted behind the coil and i'm starting there as its cheaper than the distributor.

is there anything wrong with replacing it with another lucas item or are there better aftermarket alternatives?? is so then what?

come to think of it, are there some other things i should be checking first?

    cheers.

The main problem with the amplifiers are those that are attached to the distributor like on the earlier 3.9 discos. Those engines that have the ignition modules remote from the heat of the distributer etc in the valley of the V seem to last OK. If you have a remote system then original should be OK just don't buy it from a stealer. Mine was constantly failing until I moved it off the distributor to the front of the car near the coil then no more failures.
