    Recovery points for Classic RR

Thinking of buying a set of these from Les Richmond Automotive. (LRA)

    Auxillary Recovery Points
Range Rover Classic and Discovery I & II
This auxillary recovery point is added to the front of the chassis rail for a secure precise recovery attachment. This kit unlike others available does not require dangerous "D" shackles to be utilized. Instead the use of a cecovery hook is supplied. This kit does both Left and Right had side and can be fitted inside or outside of the chassis rails.
Easy to fit using all existing holes and bolts.

Still have to find out the price though ?

Any thoughts on whether mounting the hooks on the inside or outside of the chassis rails would be better ?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

OK... So what's wrong with 'D' shackles?

Using kit with an inadequate SWL or even kit without a SWL is dangerous....

If you have a ARB bar on the front of your RR I would be more inclined to mount a rated eye bolts on that.

There is a pocket in the back of the bar formed by the upright leg and another plate which go either side of the chassis rail to bolt the bar to the RR. I drilled a hole between these and backed it up with another 8mm plate which fitted the complete surface available behind there and bolted the eye bolt through there.

Of course you have to use a rated "D" or bow shackle

I can't see what the issue with using shakles is. As long as they're rated and used correctly. The issue I've always found with hooks is that you can loose the strap - or what ever - off the hook as its only looped on (unless they have a retainer). Hooks can also break!

Correctly rated shackles is only one part of a system. The problem is not having appropriate recovery points on the vehicle.

Eye bolts can be dangerous if not used properly. Their rating must be reduced when pulled at an angle for example. In most cases the eye bolt will protrude from the bar, which is against the law here now.

It is illegal for recovery points for shackles to protrude from the bar. I would expect those hooks from LRA to be behind the face of the bar.

The steel on the brackets looks a little thin ( from your photos ). I would be concerned about it bending in a slightly sidewards snatch.

There are other aftermarket brackets around that have much heavier steel.

    SWL ?

I also don't reckon there's anything wrong with a properly secured shackle.

The bullbar thing isn't an option. My car has SRS airbags and there are NO airbag compatible bars available for my vehicle (94 LSE).

If anyone has an decent alternatives and can point me to where I can buy them, I'd be happy for them to do so.

Have a look at the recovery points that Troutbeck offers. They may not be right for the 94LSE but that style of plate is the way to go with a shackle on it.

That doesn't have much info on that page ! ALso I was hoping to get something locally rather than having to order in from overseas. Ieally I wanted to fit it in the next 2 weeks so it's there just in case we happen to need it on our honeymoon. Just in case....

I was more refering to the pic on the page. If Troutbeck has them in stock and they'll fit he will probably post them to you (Ballarat isn't overseas by the way, just in Victoria...OK enough said )

You should also be able to get similar from other places, most of the ones I know of are in Victoria though but there are suppliers others around the country.
