    Cargo barrier

    just got a Milford fitted in the Defender, $800 and it takes 4 hours , and apparently there is only so far forward under some ADR that you can fit them.So I tell the installer where I want it,(directly behind the drivers seat) and the say nocando, the best I can have is mounted to the step up in the floor where the rear seat used to be.Leaves me with a narrow gap behind the seats and the edge of the barrier blocking half the rear doors access. Also stuffs the ability to sleep in the back, unless your WEE MAN.They did tell me that I can move it forward by extending the mounts, but they would know nothing about it. How would I stand with insurance on that one??PITA.

    $800...jesus!! you should have got a fabricator to make one from aluminum amplimesh to fit exactly where you want it for those $$$..SCLARKE has got one on here you could have had for a quarter of the price..he is making a 110 ute so I guess he don't need it anymore.. where did you get it from for $800??

    The issue is that it is illegal to have passengers behind the cargo barrier.

    They could get into trouble if they fitted the barrier behind the front seats and you re-fitted the rear seats behind the barrier.

    Yet all the barriers I have had fitted came with extension bars that would take the barrier up to the back of the front seats???
    I do not see the logic on it being illegal to be seated behind a cargo barrier!! How is it more dangerous than sitting in a loaded vehicle without one at all. Not saying you should, but if there is no cargo load where is the danger?

    you can move it yourself if you like......as long as there is no back seat it shouldnt make a difference.....
    what does insurance and the law have to say about you removing the back seat....?

    the fitters arent allowed to fit it any further forward going by the rules they have to follow.....
    its for their own legalities and insurances......








    its just like window tint places wont tint your windows darker than legal....
    but they can sell you the film to do it yourself.......for example.....

    D1 with extension bars, is also top of the stepup.

    This was raised here recently & that was the conclusion as I recall. No seats behind the barrier.

    Still better than a kick in the bum, although I haven't used mine right forward yet.

    I built my own, then it can be fitted where you like. It fits behind front seats with rear seats removed. Am building a second one to fit behind back seats for different setup. I'm not certain of mounting points yet. Sure, it's not ADR approved, but it will do what I need it to do.

    Legally you cant have anything blocking the door ways for quick escape, I found this when Looking to get a roll bar for my old Fender, and found I would have to mount it fairly close to the Pillar,. So As long as you have rego for a 5 seater, if you want to be 100% by the book, you cant have the cage in the door way either..
    So just go to the RTA, and re-rego it as a 2 or 3seater,. Take the rear seats belts out, and your cage can legally go as far forward as you like…

    As what some have suggested extension bars.
    You could easily make your own out of 2mm or 2.5mm steel.
    I have a Milford cargo barrier just fitted to the rear area of my Disco and that is using extension bars or straps from where the mount screws fit.
    This is fitted from ARB.
    So I cant see the problem fitting it like that to the rear of the front seat but do not carry any passengers and there will be no insurance problem.

    I have a genuine LR cargo barrier for a Defender. No mounting kit but I guess it's worth $100.

    I was gunna put it in the County.
