thanks for the commments. have ruled out air intake leak. i have difficulty in starting the truck although it turns over freely, it doesn't fire up.
the garage is checking compression although i don't know why?

anybody else have any experiences with the lucas distributor going wrong?? and if so in what way??

    thanks.
    SORRY ABOUT THAT!

I think you need an anlyzer to rule in/out ignition.....coz theyre not that simple to analyze by guesswork and substitution.....that's why I suggested swapping a COMPLETE known to be working dizzy if you didnt have access to an analyzer

your mechanic is just checking basics - not a bad approach !

a blown head gasket can make your car run like sh#t too, you know!

it was definitely flooded.......but i had no way of smelling it.....
    remember how i was feeling....?

the girls it behind told me that it stunk and was running too rich......i stuck my nose in the exhaust and still couldnt smell it.....

i still havent got my full sense of smell back......i dont know what sort of cold i had......but its still lingering slightly......

only in the last 3 or 4 days have i been able to smell anything.....but i would say only about 15-20% of what it should be.....

its a simple 10 minute test that tells you a lot about your engine.......
if its turning over easily it is getting spark.....but probably not enough fuel....

have you (your mechanic) checked the fuel pressure......?
its not uncommon for fuel pumps to go south......or the fuel pressure regulator to play up......
it could even be the coolant sensor......

what type of air metering system is on yours....?
is it the flapper type or the hotwire type(air mass meter).......

or even the fuel temp sensor.....or a blocked fuel filter.....the list goes on....fuel pressure regulator....air temp sensor.....cold start timer stuck on......constantly leaking cold start injector.....over-run fuel shut-off valve.....faulty/dirty throttle potentiometer.....checked THOSE???? common-ish problem points on a Lucas L-Type Injection ?

its a carb'd 110,doesn't have efi or anything fancy. just a big airbox and a few pipes.its not fuel, plenty pressure and flow on petrol. LPG side working fine. there's no electronic diagnostics to plug into. the only thing electronic on the engine is the dizzy, amp and coil. two of which have been ruled out already. carbs are in good condition and even if they weren't it wouldn't efffect the lpg as it only uses the throttle butterfly. throttle linkages all correct.

carbs are fine as are piston dampers, and their condition has no bearing on the running on LPG. (sorry, when i refer to gas i mean LPG not petrol).
